CHICAGO/TORONTO: Christian Peacemaker Teams announces delegations to
U.S./Mexico Borderlands May 27-June 5, June 26-July 3, and July 24-31, 2004

In 2003, at least 210 migrants lost their lives crossing the southern
Arizona desert. The "No More Deaths coalition, made up of a number
humanitarian and human rights groups active on border issues, seeks to
protect life and promote humane and sustainable immigration policies. The
coalition is setting up a number of base camps in the desert during the
hottest and most dangerous months this summer.

Christian Peacemaker Teams (CPT) will operate one of these camps for migrant
assistance and violence deterrence. One-week CPT delegations will augment
this effort.

Delegates will study borderland culture and meet with migrant advocates on
both sides of the border. They will assist in desert search and rescue
missions and engage in nonviolent public witness challenging inhumane
immigration policies.

Participants arrange their own transportation to Tucson, Arizona. Cost of
the delegation is $350 U.S. which will cover on-ground transportation, food,
simple accommodations, and other delegation fees.

CPT seeks participants with interest or experience in human rights work and
nonviolent action, and willingness to engage in daily periods of team
worship and reflection. Good health and stamina required. Some knowledge of
Spanish is helpful. Participants should be prepared to spend seven days in
Arizona under arduous desert conditions; prepare for the trip by becoming
familiar with policies and cultural considerations affecting the U.S./Mexico
border region; and to communicate their experiences to local congregations,
groups and the media upon return.

Applications available on the web at www.cpt.org <http://www.cpt.org>
(click on "Delegations".) Those interested in the May trip should return
completed applications as soon as possible by fax or e-mail. Deadline: May
15. For more information contact CPT, phone 773-277-0253, fax 773-277-0291,
or e-mail delegations@cpt.org.
