CHIAPAS: Six displaced communities plan their return
by Keith Young
During September's commemoration mass for the 45 martyrs of Acteal, the Mesa
Directiva, (the governing body of The Civil Society of Las Abejas), formally
announced the planned return of six displaced Abejas refugee communities,
the members of which had fled paramilitary violence in their home
communities more than three and a half years ago.
The displaced from Los Chorros, numbering 262 persons who are currently
refugees in X'oyep, plan to return on Sunday, September 30, 2001. CPT Mexico
is planning to accompany their return.
The displaced from Canholal, currently taking refuge in Acteal Centro, are
planning to return back to Canholal on October 11, 2001.
The displaced from Centro Quextic, Tzajalhucum, Poblado Quextic, and Acteal
Alto, currently taking refuge in Acteal Centro, are planning to return to
their home communities on October 22, 2001.
Please pray for those returning and those who have already returned to their
home communities, for safety and for healing of the divisions that caused
the displacement.
