Ramadan reflection #2. We Are Like One

By JoAnne Lingle

[During the month of Ramadan, November 16-December 15, members of CPT
Hebron will be fasting from sunup to sundown along with their Muslim
neighbors. The team will post periodic reflections during this time.]

When told that we were fasting during Ramadan, a Palestinian friend smiled
and said, "This makes me very, very happy. During Ramadan we're all the
same, rich or poor, it's all the same. We are like one."

In Isaiah 65:17-25, God says:

"For I am about to create new heavens and a new earth. The former things
shall not be remembered or come to mind."

"I will rejoice in Jerusalem and delight in my people. No more shall the
sound of weeping be heard in it, or the cry of distress." (no more rubber
bullets, tear gas, assassinations.)

"They shall build houses and inhabit them; they shall plant vineyards and
eat their fruit." (no more bulldozing houses and olive trees)

"They shall not labor in vain or bear children for calamity." (no more
rotting produce in vegetable markets because of road closures, no more
children shot by soldiers)

"The wolf and the lamb shall feed together." (no more enmity between people)

As it is during the Ramadan Fast, we are all the same. We are like one.
