IRAQ: Christian Peacemaker Teams announces delegation to Kurdish region of Iraq, 31 July-14 August 2008.
Join CPT's first delegation to the Kurdish north of Iraq. Hear first-hand stories of a people subjected to decades of violence and oppression by the Western-backed regime of Saddam Hussein, international economic sanctions, and the U.S.-led invasion, occupation and betrayal.
While governments of the West continue to debate the future of lands and peoples not their own, this delegation is an opportunity for you to engage in bridge-building between people here and at home. You will experience the hospitality and hope of the Kurdish region and its people and come to understand better the history of and stakes for all the Iraqi people.
CPT has had a presence in Iraq since October 2002, first in Baghdad and since November 2006 in the Kurdish north.
Fundraising expectation: $3000 (U.S. or Canadian).
CPT is a faith-based group that seeks participants in all delegations who are interested in human rights work, committed to nonviolence and to undoing racism, and willing to participate in team worship and reflection. Delegates should have plans to share about the trip upon return to their home communities and congregations. Round-trip airfare from a designated U.S. or Canadian city** to Amman, Jordan and from Jordan to Iraq; all on-ground travel, two to three meals a day, simple accommodations, and honorariums and other delegation fees are covered.
For more information or to apply, contact CPT, PO Box 6508, Chicago, IL 60680; phone 773-277-0253; fax 773-277-0291; e-mail delegations [at] cpt [dot] org, or see CPT's website at: http://www.cpt.org. APPLICATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED BY JUNE 9.
** If traveling from other than Canada or the U.S. contact Delegation Coordinator, 773-277-0253 or delegations [at] teams [dot] cpt [dot] org for further information.
