Clusters of black balloons were sent up to commemorate the Nakba, the ethnic cleansing of hundreds of Palestinian villages in 1948.

The historical injustice of the expulsion of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians from their home is perpetuated and aggravated by Israel's complete control over their current territories, the appropriation of their land by Israeli colonists, and the building of a massive wall all through the West Bank to lock up the areas inhabited by Palestinians.

Beautiful Palestinian children climb a mulberry tree on their family's land, walled in on four sides by Israeli settlements, Israeli-only roads and a military encampment. Only a three-foot-wide path connects them to the rest of Hebron.

The matriarch of the family poses with one of her grandsons. Her offspring is estimated at almost a hundred, but she is not sure. Many people say Palestine's vast amount of young children is the only factor that might give the country a future.

Mousa Abu Maria is a leader of nonviolent protest in the southern West Bank. Several months ago, in the middle of the night, he was taken from his bed by the Israeli army for what is called "administrative detention", or imprisonment without charge.

CPT Hebron joined a peaceful demonstration to protest Mousa Abu Maria's arrest. Palestinian children, usually a liability at actions, played an integral role, and nonviolently expressed their love for their country.

"They are carrying weapons," Mousa's brother Youssef says as we face the Israeli army, "because they are afraid." The peaceful demonstration was met by armed soldiers with razor wire and stun-grenades.
