URGENT ACTION: AL-ATRASH FAMILY SITUATION WORSENS;
PLEASE SEND FAX OR E-MAIL IMMEDIATELY

Today, the Al-Atrash family began to rebuild the home that the
Israeli military destroyed on March 3, 1998. (SEE PREVIOUS RELEASE)
In the early afternoon, they placed a frantic call to CPT-Hebron
members who were in Jerusalem. Understanding only that there were
soldiers at the site of the family's recent demolition, CPTers Dianne
Roe and Rich Meyer headed to Qalqis, just over the southern border of
Hebron's city limits.

Once they arrived, a family member who spoke English told Roe and
Meyer that approximately 100 Israelis in civilian clothes and 25
soldiers in 10 vehicles had arrived in the early afternoon. At the
time they arrived, a backhoe had begun to dig a foundation.
They threatened physical harm to the family if they attempted to
rebuild their home and demanded that they remove the tents in which
they had been living since their home was demolished last
Tuesday.

According to the family, no reason was given for the
demolition; the family has lived on this land since Turkish times.
Yussef, Zuhur, and ten children lived in the house.

The family will continue to try to rebuild their home. CPT members
will be sleeping in the family tents until further notice. The
Al-Atrash Family, CPT and the Israelis who oppose their government's
home demolition policy are asking that people immediately fax or
e-mail one or more of the following numbers/addresses. (Faxing or
e-mailing Israeli officials will have more immediate impact.)
