CHICAGO: Palestinian Families Await Partners
April 30, 1998
Twelve Palestinian families are currently waiting to be matched with North
American families as a part of the Christian Peacemaker Teams (CPT) Campaign
for Secure Dwellings. In the West Bank, Israeli authorities are threatening
to demolish over 1000 Palestinian homes. Through the Campaign for Secure
Dwellings (CSD), CPT is matching North American families and their
congregations or groups with Palestinian families facing home demolitions.
CSD asks that the North American groups participate in at least one act of
witness each month on behalf of the Palestinian family, whether it be
writing to the family, praying, writing to government officials, or
organizing a public witness. "We want to stop Palestinians from losing
their homes. The idea is to get thousands of North Americans writing to
government officials calling for an end to the unjust Israeli policy of
demolishing Palestinian homes," said CPTer Sara Reschly.
In the Hebron area, there are about 500 homes targeted for demolition. CPT
has already matched 17 Palestinian families with various churches, Friends
Meetings, and peace groups both in the United States and Canada. Twelve
profiles have been collected and await matching partners. By the end of
this year, CPT hopes to match over 100 families from the Hebron area. For
more information on how you can get involved, please contact CPT.
