CHIAPAS, ACTEAL, CHENALHO: An Urgent Call To Walk with Sisters and Brothers

Our CPT Team in Chiapas has received a letter from the Mexican Christian
community known as the "Bees" who have urgently requested people to walk
with them to their native villages from which they fled some years ago due
to violence. They plan to begin their return June 25. Persons within the
CPT network, particularly those who have Spanish speaking ability and have
participated in CPT projects are encouraged to contact CPT if they can
participate in this important effort. The "Bees" are a Christian community
of more that 4000 who have embraced nonviolence as one part of their
spiritual renewal. More than forty of their numbers were massacred while
engaged in worship in December 1997. Their letter of invitation for support
follows.

Starting on June 25, 1998, those displaced by political violence who are=20
now located in the camps of X oyep and Acteal will begin returning to the=20
communities of Yibeljoj and Los Chorros. It is very important for us to=20
assure means of security, for which we are requesting your invaluable=20
collaboration in our return.

We know that we have taken a very risky decision, but it is very=20
difficult for us to continue living in the conditions in which we now=20
find ourselves in the camps. This is why we must return.

We ask that you collaborate principally through your presence, if this=20
is possible. Our other basic needs will include: food and provisions,=20
medicine, work tools, and household goods.

en los campamentos, por lo que es necesario retornar.
