Sioux Lookout, Toronto: Public witness at Israeli Consulate
by Doug Pritchard
St. Andrews United Church in Sioux Lookout, Ontario is a recent partner with a
Palestinian family in CPT's Campaign for Secure Dwellings (CSD).
Despite its fairly remote location in northwestern Ontario (1700 kilometres
from Toronto), members of St. Andrews' CSD support group have been attempting
to engage Israeli officials in a dialogue about the Israeli policy of home
demolitions.
While on a visit to Toronto in September, Terry Lynne Jewell tried to meet
with officials at the Israeli Consulate in Toronto but was unable to do so.
This week, during their visit to the Toronto area, Dr. Larry Willms and Dr.
Marilyn Koval have tried to meet with Israeli officials at the Consulate as
well but have been rebuffed.
Therefore Drs. Willms and Koval plan to engage in a public witness outside the
Israeli Consulate this afternoon, Oct. 21, to call attention to the
demolition of Palestinian homes by Israel. They will hold placards and also
distribute leaflets describing the threats to the home of their Palestinian
partner family.
