Prayers for Peacemakers July 20, 2016

Give thanks for the signing of the peace accords that ended five decades of civil war in Colombia. Pray for the encouragement of all those still struggling for justice, restitution, victims’ rights and legal protections guaranteed to them under Colombian law.

Let me hear what God the LORD will speak, for he will speak peace to his people, to his faithful,
to those who turn to him in their hearts.

Surely his salvation is at hand for those who fear him, that his glory may dwell in our land.
Steadfast love and faithfulness will meet; righteousness and peace will kiss each other.
Faithfulness will spring up from the ground, and righteousness will look down from the sky.
The LORD will give what is good, and our land will yield its increase.
Righteousness will go before him, and will make a path for his steps. Psalm 85:8-13

God has taken his place in the divine council; in the midst of the gods he holds judgment:
"How long will you judge unjustly and show partiality to the wicked? Selah

Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked." Psalm 82:1-4

Prayers for Peacemakers, May 18, 2016

Give thanks for the decision that Christian Peacemaker Teams – Europe made to hold its convergence and public witness at the Eurovision song contest in Malmö, Sweden three years ago last week.  Out of that meeting arose its decision to accompany and partner with refugees, immigrants, asylum seekers and their allies on the Greek island of Lesvos.

Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand; and we boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God.
And not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance,
and endurance produces character, and character produces hope,
and hope does not disappoint us, because God's love has been poured into our hearts
through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us. Romans 5:1-5

And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "See, the home of God is among
mortals. He will dwell with them as their God; they will be his peoples, and
God himself will be with them;
he will wipe every tear from their eyes. Death
will be no more; mourning and crying and pain will be no more, for the first things
 have passed away." Revelation 213-4

Prayers for Peacemakers, April 13, 2016 Palestine

Prayers for Peacemakers, April 13, 2016     Palestine

Pray for U.S policymakers who are questioning their country’s unwavering support for Israel.  These include Representative Hank Johnson, Senator Patrick Leahy and eight other members of congress who held up the Israeli military’s murder of Hadil Hashlamoun in Hebron last fall as an example of why the U.S. needs to re-evaluate military aid to Israel.  They also include Senator Bernie Sanders, who has called for Israel to stop building settlements and referred to the indiscriminate killings of civilians in Gaza in 2014.  Even though he misstated numbers of Palestinians killed in an interview and his comments brought a barrage of criticism from other candidates running for president, he has not backed down from his statements.  Pray that these congressional members will continue to show the courage of their convictions, and that the voters in their districts will have the wisdom to resist the pro-Israeli Occupation lobby during the elections.

Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no evil; for you are with me; your rod and your
 staff-- they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint

Prayers for Peacemakers, April 6, 2016 Europe

Prayers for Peacemakers, April 6, 2016  Europe

Pray for the refugees and migrants in Greece facing deportation this week because of the European Union’s agreement with Turkey.  Pray for CPT-Europe’s partners on Lesvos, who are facing the shutdown of their collaborative, humane camp at Pipka by the local authorities.  The mayor of Lesvos plans to ship all the residents from Pipka to detention camps, including some of the most vulnerable refugees: those with disabilities, lone women and children, survivors of shipwrecks.  Please prayerfully sign this petition to keep Pipka open.

Now as he was going along and approaching Damascus, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him.
He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, "Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?"
He asked, "Who are you, Lord?" The reply came, "I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. Acts 9:3-5

Prayers for Peacemakers, March 31, 2016

The Indigenous Peoples Solidarity team gives thanks for Canadian Churches responding positively to the 94 Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. These denominations are embracing the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, repenting of the historic role of Christianity in assimilation efforts, committing to make amends for the impact on Indigenous culture, land and governments.
We pray that the churches will be a prophetic voice that speaks against injustice and any agendas of government and corporation that afflict Indigenous communities around the world.
