Happy New Year?

Pictured here: The Israeli Paratrooper unit currently in Hebron chose New Year’s Eve (Gregorian Calendar) to stop cars and pedestrians coming into the Old City of Hebron and ask for their IDs. CPTers were coming on their way home from a party thrown by their EAPPI colleagues and rang in 2017 monitoring Israeli military treatment of Palestinian civilians.

Breaking The Silence

Pictured here: On Friday, 300 Israelis came to Hebron to hear stories from ex-combatants who previously served in the IDF about the situation in Hebron and their experiences. See the post about the day from Breaking The Silence here. “Breaking the Silence is an organization of veteran combatants who have served in the Israeli military since the start of the Second Intifada and have taken it upon themselves to expose the Israeli public to the reality of everyday life in the Occupied Territories.” Read more…

Training On Palestinians

Pictured here: How does a rookie Border Police Officer learn how to stop and frisk?  His officer pulls a random Palestinian pedestrian from the roadway and shows him how it’s done. This man was on his way to Friday prayer at Al-Ibrahimi mosque.

Anyone Is A Suspect

Pictured here:  Your age does not matter. Your status as a student on the way to take your exams at the end of terms doesn’t matter. In the eyes of the Israeli military, you are the enemy.

Old City Restrictions

Pictured here: If you’re enjoying a card game a little too much, a little too loudly, in this coffee shop, the Israeli military will post a soldier to make sure you do not pose a threat to the settlers who are passing through on a Saturday.

Rebuilding Structure

Pictured here: Settlers continue to modify and adapt this structure on private Palestinian farmland between the settlements of Kiryat Arba and Givat Havot.  They call it a synagogue.  Under the Fourth Geneva Convention all settlements  in the Occupied Palestinian Territories are illegal.  This settlement outpost is illegal under Israeli law as well.

Justice will come through people

I have never seen a more hopeful future than I have in the way that Palestinians in Gaza have cared for one another and have shown us what humanity is.
