Another Delayed Journey

Pictured here: Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) stop and search vehicles in a Palestinian neighbourhood, causing a backup of cars trying to pass through. During a period of 1 hour and 20 minutes, 30 cars were stopped and searched. Several vehicles were held for 10-15 minutes each and at least 2 people were made to exit their vehicles and were body searched. This temporary or "flying checkpoint" is one example of the constant restriction of movement the IOF imposes on Palestinians in occupied Al-Khalil, preventing them from moving freely throughout the city. Empty Your Bag

Pictured here: Two women are ID checked and bag searched by Israeli Border Police on their way to Friday noon prayers at Al-Ibrahimi Mosque. Bag searches are an invasive breach of privacy, often requiring women to empty the contents of their bags and conducted on the assumption of criminality. Earlier in the afternoon, another woman was denied entry to the mosque to pray on account of not having her ID with her.

Checkpoint of Control

Pictured here:  A new checkpoint is being constructed between the Kiryat Arba settlement and the Palestinian neighbourhood of Wadi al-Ghrous. The presence of this checkpoint will enforce even greater control of  Palestinian freedom of movement in neighbourhoods that already face daily harassment and violence from the IOF and settlers. Two additional permanent checkpoints are currently being constructed in the neighbourhood of Tel Rumeida.

Intimidation

Pictured here:  An Israeli Border Policeman stares down at a young Palestinian boy during the settler incursion into the Souq. For over an hour every Saturday afternoon, Israeli forces and settlers determine the timing and route that Palestinians can travel through the Old City, controlling and severely limiting their right to free movement. On this day, the IOF continually photographed young boys surrounding the tour and aggressively demanded they leave the area. This boy and several others refused the IOF orders and remained in the streets and around their homes despite this heavy intimidation.
