“Where are you going?”
Pictured here: Two Israeli soldiers from the Golani brigade stand guard as a young Palestinian man is body searched while walking through a market in al-Khalil. This man is one of 17 Palestinian men and boys questioned and body searched during this 1 1/2 hour patrol by the soldiers. These patrols occur daily, sometimes two or three times a day, as a means of controlling the lives and movement of Palestinians. Each person stopped is usually asked, “Where are you going?” by the soldiers, questioned for every move. The questions and searches are invasive and dehumanising, reducing human beings to a supposed “threat.” Young Palestinians have expressed how this is an attempt at making them disappear from the streets, shops, and homes of al-Khalil.
