Pray for Canadian institutions to take seriously the ninety-four recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission regarding the atrocities committed against Indigenous people in the residential school system. Give thanks for the healing journey thus far, for the dedication of the survivors, and for the opportunities for genuine reconciliation created by their testimony.

Prayers for Peacemakers, June 10, 2015 Iraqi Kurdistan

Prayers for Peacemakers, June 10, 2015     Iraqi Kurdistan

Give thanks for the successful completion of the eight-week psychosocial program in Bazian, Iraqi Kurdistan that brought together youth who were Arabs from Anbar province, Yazidis from Sinjar mountain, and Syrian Kurdish and Syrian Arab refugees.  CPT partnered with REACH to create an experiential learning program that focused on communication, team building, and trust with the multi-faith, multi-cultural group of participants: children aged 11 to 14 and young people aged 15 to 18.

He also said, "With what can we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable will we use for it?
It is like a mustard seed, which, when sown upon the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on earth;
yet when it is sown it grows up and becomes the greatest of all shrubs, and puts forth large branches,
so that the birds of the air can make nests in its shade." Mark 4:30-32

Prayers for Peacemakers, May 28, 2015    Palestine

Give thanks that at the end of the school year, the Israeli military allowed the children of the Saraya kindergarten to walk on the paved portion of the segregated path that runs by the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron.  In March, Israeli Border Police arrested two CPTers because the team had been advocating for the children’s right to walk on the paved side of the fence where settlers walk, rather than the more hazardous, rubble-strewn side.

CPTer performs his favorite accompaniment duty on the paved side
of the apartheid fence.

Give thanks that a judge in Kenora, ON dissolved the injunction calling for the arrest of Grassy Narrows member Judy Da Silva, if she tried to block the CN rail line.  Nevertheless, CN railway is still threatening to sue her.

For in hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what is seen? But if we hope for what we
do not see, we wait for it with patience. Romans 8:24-25

Children at Kobane School:
"Peace is what it was like before the war. On the right you can see children playing and going to school, trees,
flowers, and birds. This is what it used to be like in Syria. Now, there are tanks and rockets, people wounded
and dead."
For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish. Psalm 1:6

Pray for the community of Grassy Narrows and Judy Da Silva.  On Friday, April 10, 2015 water protector and Elder, Josephine Mandamin, held a traditional Anishinaabe Water Ceremony on the shores of Wild Lake, near the CN railway mainline between Kenora and Grassy Narrows along with other Grassy Narrows community activists. Despite the fact the group called off a blockade of the railway—which transports toxic tar sands bitumen over local waterways—CN still served Da Silva with an injunction against impeding trains and/or trespassing on CN property, and/or ‘counselling’ others to do the same. The injunction will be before the court on April 16 at 10 a.m. in Kenora.

On this mountain the LORD of hosts will make for all peoples a  feast of rich food, a feast of
well-aged wines, of rich food filled  with marrow, of well-aged wines strained clear.

And he will destroy on this mountain the shroud that is cast over all peoples, the sheet that is
spread over all nations; he will swallow up death forever. Isaiah 25:6-7

Prayers for Peacemakers, March 25, 2015

Pray for the children of Al Saraya kindergarten in Hebron, who must walk past Israeli military personnel and settlers to get to school near the Il-Ibrahimi Mosque.   In 2000, ninety-five children attended the kindergarten.  Now, because of settler and soldier harassment, only fifteen children remain at the school.  The International Red Crescent recently asked CPT to start accompanying the children on their walk to school, and several weeks ago, two CPTers were arrested while doing so.

[H]e who vindicates me is near. Who will contend with me? Let us stand up together.
Who are my adversaries? Let them confront me. It is the Lord GOD who helps me; who
will declare me guilty? Isaiah 50:8-9a

Prayers for Peacemakers, March 18, 2015

Give thanks for the Grassy Narrows First Nations Members who remain strong in their determination to resist logging on their traditional lands, despite recent court rulings allowing corporate exploitation of these lands.  On 16 March 2015, youth groups, Band Councilors, Drum Groups, Elders and others engaged in protests at the Weyerhaeuser Mill, Kenora Forest Products and the local Ministry of Natural Resources office.
