Aboriginal Justice: No Mining Allowed

The Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug (KI) community’s struggle to defend their land and resources against unwanted mining continues.

In spite of KI’s Water Declaration, which protects Big Trout Lake and the entire watershed from all industrial activity, and its Consultation Protocol, which sets out how KI consent must be obtained prior to any decision affecting KI’s lands and resources, the gold mining company God’s Lake Resources (GLR) staked and accessed new claims last summer.  Multiple sacred KI graves lie within the claim area.

KI issued an eviction notice last September and met with provincial government representatives in November.  The government refused to promise community leaders that they would compel GLR to cease mining activity on KI territory and talks between the two parties broke down.  Since then, the KI community has been preparing to resist the anticipated re-entry by GLR on their territory.

Please pray that the Ontario provincial government and the GLR mining company  honour the declaration of the KI community against mining or other industrial activity on their Territory.

Septermber Supper Fundraiser

Will you host a dinner party for CPT?

CPT really needs your support in raising $10k in September. Unfortunately, we are behind our financial targets and need your help. We want to dedicate the month of September to bringing people together around the dinner table. You can choose the date, who you invite and what you cook (though our teams have some great recipes prepared!) We’d love to hear if you’d be interested.

There’s no commitment needed at this stage.
