Iran executes four Kurdish prisoners

Iran has carried out several executions of political prisoners in the last few weeks in an act to suppress minority groups. In 2023 alone, at least 834 people were executed in Iran for their political beliefs.

Pray for the families of four Kurdish political prisoners, Mohsen Mazloum, Pejman Fatehi, Wafa Azarbar, and Mohammad Hejir Faramarzi, whom the Islamic Republic of Iran executed on Monday, 29 January 2024.

Even though the death penalty is an abolished practice in many countries today, still, many political and non-political prisoners are facing this most brutal punishment by the judiciary system in the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Iranian regime has been using execution for decades as a tool to suppress any opposing political views, especially against the religious and ethnic minorities in Iran.

Mohsen Mazloum, Pejman Fatehi, Wafa Azarbar, and Mohammad Hejir Faramarzi were Kurdish Iranian political prisoners who had been detained for one year and five months without rights while Iranian authorities carried out physical and psychological torture on them.

According to their families, they had no information about their arrests or whereabouts and were denied any face-to-face visits or phone calls.

In 2023, at least 834 people were executed in Iran for their political beliefs. This number is highly concerning.

Today, some of the Kurdish cities in Rojhelat (Irani Kurdistan) are on strike as a protest against the executions. It is time for the international community to break the silence against human rights violations that the Islamic Republic of Iran is committing. Pray with CPT-Iraqi Kurdistan for all the prisoners and their families who are facing a tremendous injustice in Iran these days.
