Iraq: Lives at Risk

Iraq eldersA taxi driver told CPTers that his day job is working for the Mines Advisory Group (MAG) clearing minefields.  MAG is a not-for-profit organization clearing landmines, unexploded ordnance (UXO) and other remnants of conflict for the benefit of communities worldwide (www.maginternational.org).

Most mines in this area are left from the Iran/Iraq war, although some are more recent.  He also clears bomblets – unexploded remains from U.S. cluster bombs.  He only has a handful of fellow de-miners and gets paid only $500 a month.
