We pray for a peaceful Christmas in Colombia

This year a record number of social leaders have been killed and CPT partner communities and organizations continue to experience intense violence

a collection of images of partners in Colombia who are under threat. One hoists a squash on his shoulder, another screams and claps her hands, a third sits on a chair wearing a bag over her shoulder, a fourth looks at the camera and points to a spot behind him.

We are a few days away from the end of the year, and so far in 2022, 172 social leaders have been assassinated, according to data from Indepaz. Unfortunately, the escalation and resurgence of violence are still present in the territories today. The new government has established peace talks with the ELN and has launched a proposal that seeks to welcome other armed actors within this framework. The hope is that these spaces of dialogue are an opportunity to help move the country towards that long-awaited peace, where the senseless violence stops and ceases to have such a negative impact not only the communities and partner organizations that CPT Colombia accompanies, but also thousands of people in Colombia.

We ask you to support us with your prayers to stop the violence that has remained on the table and which has claimed the lives of leaders and defenders of Human Rights in their work to defend it.

And even in the midst of this difficult reality, the brave people who are part of the communities and partner organizations of CPT, for example, CAHUCOPANA, the Guayabo community, and the Popular Women’s Organization (OFP by its Spanish initials), have not given up and continue to build community and resist. Please keep them in your prayers as well.

Join us as we continue to put our voices together and unite our efforts to transform violence and oppression. Thank you for the many ways you support us, it means a lot to us. We also want to wish all of you a Merry Christmas! May all the people of Colombia be able to walk in solidarity alongside their families—especially at this time of year—and with the hope that there will come a day when peace will be total, just and true.

Psalm 85:10-11

Love and faithfulness meet together;

    righteousness and peace kiss each other.

Faithfulness springs forth from the earth,

    and righteousness looks down from heaven.
