The last issue of “Signs of the Times” (Summer 2008; Vol XVIII, No. 2) reported on the abduction, torture and year-long detention of Pastor Berlin Guerrero of the United Church of Christ of the Philippines. CPT Reservist Rey Lopez reports that Pastor Guerrero was released from prison on September 11 and the trumped-up charges against him were dropped.
Pastor Guerrero returned to warm welcome at Union Theological Seminary where he asked the community to continue the prison ministry he started while incarcerated and said, “Nobody is free as long as a single detainee remains in jail for working for a better society.”
Thanks to all the international friends who helped in the case of Pastor Guerrero and please continue to pray for the release of other political prisoners still suffering in Filipino jails.
Consider joining CPT’s next delegation to the Philippines, February 6-21.
