Since 1995, CPT has established a base in the city of Al-Khalil/Hebron, where we work in solidarity with Palestinian communities, particularly in the H2 area and the South Hebron Hills, by monitoring checkpoints, maintaining a protective presence, and documenting human rights violations. CPT Palestine also runs three initiatives: Stories Within Stones, which documents the oral history of the Old City; Through Their Lens, a photography mentorship for children; and Be the Change, a Palestinian space for undoing oppression.
Since 2002, the CPT Palestine team has accompanied children, teachers, local residents, and school principals on the daily school run, ensuring their safety as they pass through Israeli military checkpoints and face settler harassment.
This report highlights the violations of the learning environment experienced by students as they access their right to education. These violations include bag searches, detention of children, the use of force against school students, and checkpoint closures, especially during Jewish Holidays.
Unfortunately, Israeli soldiers continue to close checkpoints through which students must access schools, creating significant difficulties for children and teachers. Since October 7 2023, the increased checkpoint restrictions have made it more difficult for Palestinian children to access education. This report covers the first semester, from September 2025 to January 2026, in H2 and the South Hebron Hills areas.
Throughout this period, we could only monitor the al-Salaymeh (160) checkpoint. The Qitoun (209) checkpoint, which is the closest route for accessing the Ibrahimi School, has been completely closed since 17 February 2025. As a result, all staff and students are forced to use a longer alternative route. This report presents a summary of these complexities.
