COLOMBIA REFLECTION: I love God

by Jhon Henry

There is nothing more liberating than saying I love God, because by God’s love I am able to understand the struggles of my sisters and brothers, through God’s love it is possible to understand that my commitment as a Christian is to transform the world into a more just place where all can have a place in which to live, a just world for me, for you, for us, for all.

I love God

How can I learn to live out your love, Lord?
If loving you has become the excuse that we as Christians use to foster our lack of love for our sisters and brothers.

How can I learn to live out your love, Lord?
If loving you has become the favorite excuse, because no matter how my actions impact my sisters and brothers, loving you erases all trace of guilt and shame that we might feel.

How can I learn to live out your love, Lord?
If loving you as become a tool used to dehumanize the other.

How can I learn to live out your love, Lord?
If loving you has become the method that the structures of death use to rid themselves of responsibility for the reality that the humble are experiencing on the land.

How can I learn to live out your love, Lord?
If loving you has become the reason we blame the poor for their poverty.

How can I learn to live out your love, Lord?
If loving you has become a structure designed to perpetuate inequality.

How can I learn to live out your love, Lord?
If loving you has become the tool we Christians use to legitimize our hate towards indigenous peoples for practicing their ancestral spiritualities.

How can I learn to live out your love, Lord?
If loving you has become the way in which we foster hate towards women for being women, and believing they are less than men.

How can I learn to live out your love, Lord?
If loving you has become the way in which we foster hate towards our elders, believing they are useless in the capitalist system.

How can I learn to live out your love, Lord?
If loving you has become a weapon used to delegitimize the truths of others with the malicious intention to make them believe as I do.

How can I learn to live out your love, Lord?
If loving you has become the method which was used to take away the rights of minority groups so that their existence would be more difficult.

How can I learn to live out your love, Lord?
If loving you has become the way in which to sustain war and generate hate between one another.

How can I learn to live out your love, Lord?
If loving you has become a tool used to steal and rob from those who are searching for you.

How can I learn to live out your love, Lord?
If loving you has become the most effective tool of oppression that exists.

How can I learn to live out your love, Lord?
If loving you has become the excuse to not forgive.

How can I learn to live out your love, Lord?
If loving you has become the easiest way to legitimize any action taken against my neighbour.

How can I learn to live out your love, Lord?
If we have forgotten that loving you is loving the other, and that loving the other is how we love you.
