Behind Closed Doors

Pictured here: Israeli occupation forces continue to target young Palestinian men this week with accusations of stone throwing. On Wednesday, the soldiers took an 18-year-old Palestinian man inside the Israeli military gate at Bab al Baladeyeh for questioning. He was released twenty minutes later with a cut on his wrist. When CPT asked the soldiers what had happened, they laughed and refused to comment.

Apartheid Under Lock and Key

Pictured here: The Israeli military has installed a gate at the end of the concrete blockades that were extended last week after the shooting of a Palestinian man outside the Ibrahimi mosque area. This door is now permanently locked; Israeli Border Police stated that they only open the gate for children going to school. Residents of the neighbourhood and local school teachers now must walk up and around through the tunnels to access their homes.

Solidarity with Prisoners

Pictured here: A mother leads a demonstration and road blockade in Al-Khalil/Hebron to draw attention to the 1,600 Palestinian prisoners who have been on hunger strike for 29 days. “According to the prisoners’ rights organisation Addameer, 40% of the male Palestinian population has been detained by the Israeli authorities at some point in their lives. Rights groups have long accused Israel of using routine imprisonment as a tool to erode family and political life in the Palestinian territory.”

Constant Patrols

Pictured here: Israeli military forces were carrying out constant patrols through the Old City on Friday, occupying rooftops and checking IDs. Eleven men were stopped within a two hour period, almost all of them were subject to extensive body and bag searches. These two boys were searched while their friend was separated from them and questioned by another soldier off camera.

Late Night Settler Incursion

Pictured here: An Israeli soldier holds a light so that a settler can take a photo in the Old City at 8:30 pm on Sunday. He was part of an unexpected settler incursion of about 25 people who were escorted by Israeli military through Palestinian neighbourhoods causing safety concerns and delays for the community. Locals have come to expect and prepare for the settler incursion that usually happens on Saturday afternoons but this came as a surprise.
